Cindy had been a caregiver since she was 16. So when she met a man with developmental disabilities who had fallen through the cracks—without a stable home or the support he needed—walking away simply wasn't an option. Cindy and her husband, John, opened their home to him, providing the stability, relationships, and round-the-clock support he needed to build a better life. What began as one family's decision to help one person grew into something much bigger: a belief that everyone deserves to be known, valued, supported, and given the opportunity to live a meaningful life. That belief became Rise & Shine Social Enterprise. Founded in Lane County, Oregon, in 2020, Rise & Shine was built from a caregiver's perspective—from someone who understood firsthand that exceptional care isn't created by programs or policies alone. It's created through relationships. Today, that same philosophy guides everything we do. We've grown, expanded our services, and welcomed hundreds of people into the Rise & Shine family—but our purpose remains the same: To help people feel safe, known, respected, connected, and empowered to live their BEST life.
